Michael Kraus is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Expak Logistics. Mr. Kraus began his career with the New York based private equity firm, Chancery Lane Capital and Chancery’s principal investment vehicle, Big Flower Holdings. Following the sale of Big Flower in 1999, Mr. Kraus was a chief architect of Chancery’s PIPE investment in Moore Corporation in 2000 and subsequently joined Moore and helped engineer the sale of Moore’s successor, Moore Wallace, to RR Donnelley & Sons Company (Nasdaq: RRD), creating an approximately $11 billion global printing and business services company. Mr. Kraus served in various operating roles for RR Donnelley, including responsibility for the company’s Logistics, Asia and Europe operations. Following RR Donnelley, Mr. Kraus was the Managing Member of Krest Capital, a Los Angeles-based private investment and advisory firm and a Principal with OpenGate Capital, a global private investment firm. In his capacity at Krest and OpenGate, Mr. Kraus completed numerous investments and operational turnarounds across a variety of industries, including paper, packaging, food and beverage and supply chain operations, amongst others. Mr. Kraus graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Bucknell University in 1994 and currently serves on the Alumni Board of Directors of Bucknell University. He is also a board member of Phoenix House of California and the Jewish Graduate Student Initiative.
Steve Schmidt is the Senior Vice President of Expak Logistics. Mr. Schmidt oversees all sales and marketing efforts for Expak, including new customer lead generation, design and implementation and on-going customer support. Throughout his 40-plus years of experience in the industry, Mr. Schmidt has developed a multi-layered carrier network throughout the United States allowing for a seamless service offering across a variety of industries with unique client needs from local, expedited small parcel delivery to high-security pharmaceuticals to unique auto parts, amongst others. Additionally, he developed a sustainability program that measures the exact carbon footprint created by packages shipped by any means and offers clean offsets to make such deliveries carbon neutral. Prior to Expak, Mr. Schmidt served as CEO of Edge Logistics, an asset-based regional distribution company with over 70 offices covering all states west of the Mississippi and simultaneously implemented a 3PL division that created a service network covering the Eastern US, providing a national footprint to its customers. Prior to Edge, Steve founded and served as President and CEO of Marquis Southwest & Marquis Messengers.
Jeff Mecca is the Vice President of Operations for Expak Logistics. Mr. Mecca oversees Expak’s operations, including its customer service department, driver/fleet assets and is also responsible for the oversight of their carrier partners. Originally from Orlando, FL, Mr. Mecca graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. Mr. Mecca began his career with Bags, Inc in Orlando in 2005 and transferred to Los Angeles in 2006. Most recently he held the title of Vice President of Operations on the West Coast, overseeing a delivery/courier network across 15 offices. After nearly 10 years with Bags, Inc, he sought out a new opportunity with Expak and was brought on as Director of Operations. Mr. Mecca currently resides in El Segundo, CA with his family, wife AnnMarie and daughters Abby and Ellie.
